Meclina Gomes’s powerful exhibition, Woven In, explores beauty, resilience, and identity through her distinctive use of poetic micrography. In this collection, Gomes reflects on the layers of stories behind the creation of a gown, symbolizing both opulence and the labor of countless women who work behind the scenes.
“The gown is a metaphor for our cloak, our armor, what we go through. There is this feeling of opulence when you look at a gown – you’re almost taken away by it. But we often forget the women who work in the field picking the cotton fibers, or the ones working on the loom to weave the fabric. There are so many layers of resilient women that come before that gown ever comes to be. And then there’s you – who are YOU that wears the gown? What is your story?” – Meclina Gomes
